Cross Island Line By 2032

By 2032, six additional MRT stations will be constructed in phase 2 of the exciting Cross Island Line (CRL). The Land Transport Authority (LTA) made official in a Tuesday press release that phase two of the Cross Island line, from Turf City to Jurong Lake District, will include six underground stations (20 September 2022).

The Cross Island Line’s Phase 2 comprises of these six stations: Turf City (CR14), King Albert Park (CR15), Maju (CR16), Clementi (CR17), West Coast (CR18), and Jurong Lake District (CR19).

Phase Two of the Cross Island Line will commence at the Bright Hill MRT Station (TE7/CR13), which is part of Phase One, and Phase Three will commence at a station in the Jurong Lake District, which is part of Phase Two, and extend to the Jurong Industrial Estate.

From Aviation Park (CR2) to Bright Hill (CR13), the 29-kilometer-long phase one of the CRL comprises of 12 stations and would be constructed in three phases. Beginning in 2030, the first phase of the line consists of 12 stations between Aviation Park (Changi) and Bright Hill (Sin Ming).

The Minister of Transportation, S Iswaran, disclosed the second phase of CRL’s six stations, which span 15 kilometers and include two interchanges with existing lines.

With this upcoming Jurong Region Line (JRL), it will further elevate the Western region of Singapore as one of the most livable region that not only connect well and yet have all that you need in live, work and play.

White Site For Sale Within Jurong Lake District For Mixed-Use Project

To jumpstart the next phase of Jurong Lake District transformation, Singaporean government will make a 6.8-hectare White Site within the Precinct available for sale to a Master Developer via the Confirmed List of 1H2023.

Head of Research for Edmund & Tie, Mr. Lam Chorn Woon noted that the sites in the Jurong Lake District are also indicative of the government’s intention to provide developers with more flexibility in adapting to market demands.

The white site in Jurong East (consisting of three land parcels) can be developed into approximately 150,000 sq metre Gross Floor Area(GFA) of office and commercial spaces, 1,760 private residential home and 75,000 sq metres of integrative uses, such as hotel, retail or community space.

In 2019, it was announced that the Jurong Lake district would be developed into Singapore’s largest commercial area beyond the city center. To ensure that the city-tourism state’s landscape continues to provide a steady supply of exceptional, compelling new attractions, Singapore is broadening its tourism activities to the Jurong Lake Estate, the city-largest state’s business district outside of the central business district.

As the area’s first major attractions & cluster of hotels, the development will benefit from its first-mover advantage status within Jurong Lake District, allowing it to showcase limitless possibilities and attract tourists from around the world.

In addition, the area surrounding Jurong Town Hall MRT Station will have a greater variety of uses to accommodate the thriving technology community. In 2023, Jurong Entertainment Centre Mall or otherwise known as  J Cube will also undergo a transformation.

The Jurong Gateway Precinct will become a major business center, while the Lakeside Precinct will develop into a world-class entertainment destination for both residents and visitors.

The LakeGarden Residences will be one of the first-mover advantage development to be launched just beside the Jurong Lake Garden with breathtaking views of the Jurong Lake.

Jurong Lake Tourism

In the coming decades, the Jurong Lake region will become a new development priority, and Singapore has prioritized the sale of land in the region. This region will be supported by four major railway lines by the early 2030s: the North-South (NS), East-West (EW), Jurong District (JRL) and Cross-Island lines (CRL).

The development is directly linked to the Jurong East MRT via the East-West line, and its close proximity to the North-South, Cross-Island Line and Jurong Region Line facilitates its connectivity.

The tourist-oriented development will showcase a 300-meter-long waterfront with expansive views of Jurong Lake Gardens and will be conveniently linked to the Chinese Garden MRT Station on the East-West Line(EW), enabling connections to the North-South Line.

In the coming years, a number of new lakefront attractions will be opened. One of it is The Jurong Lake Garden with an area of 90 hectares, is Singapore’s third National Garden, after the Singapore Botanic Garden and Gardens by the Bay.

The new lifestyle and tourism centre is anticipated to offer a variety of attractions, hotels, retail, food & beverage, and entertainment options, all geared toward technology, edutainment, and resiliency.

The project is a pure recreational destination expansion from the current Jurong Gateway, which already includes well-known entertainment & shopping destinations such as JEM, J Cube, IMM ,Westgate and the Genting Hotel. It is intended to be one of the biggest lifestyle developments in Jurong Lake District.

In response to media inquiries, STB chief executive officer Keith Tan stated that the transformation of Jurong into a tourist destination is also part of the government’s plan to change Singaporeans’ perception of Jurong as a remote, unaffordable industrial estate.

The site designated for tourism development is at the junction of Boon Lay Way and Jurong Town Hall Road, close to the Chinese Garden MRT station (EW25) and the city’s new science center, which is ready by 2027.
